In 2003, Robert H. Pittman was in Madrid as a Fulbright grantee making a documentary film about tourism on the mediterranean coast. The result of his work is the award winning documentary “Concrete coast” (26 min.). It premieres at the Architecture and Design Film Festival (Tribeca Cinemas) on October 20th. The filmmaker, who continues to live in Madrid, will be present for the screening.

Filmmaker/photographer Robert Harding Pittman uses carefully framed scenes of construction sites, factory farms, road projects and cookie-cutter subdivisions to tell the story of the ‘backdoor invasion’ of Murcia by foreign tourists more interested in generic luxury than cultural immersion. He contrasts these expert compositions with interviews with local farmers whose land is being consumed by the resort blitz.
